The global energy industry is looking beyond disruption to growth. Investment confidence is rising, the centre of gravity is shifting east and AI is reshaping demand, but converting that confidence into infrastructure and delivery will be the next test.
Commissioned by ADIPEC and conducted by Kekst CNC, the ADIPEC Global Energy Report 2026 draws on the views of more than 1,800 senior business and energy leaders worldwide. It examines how these shifts are reshaping investment decisions and what they mean for businesses navigating the changing global energy landscape.
Four shifts reshaping global energy
The system held
Recent disruption tested the global energy system, but did not break it. Almost two-thirds of energy insiders, 64%, say the system proved more resilient than expected, most often crediting rapid adaptation, continued supply flows and greater diversification.
Energy’s centre of gravity is moving east
The geography of energy opportunity is shifting. Nearly three-quarters of energy insiders, 72%, expect the Middle East to become more important in global energy over the coming decade, with the region also identified as offering the greatest energy-sector opportunity.
AI is reshaping demand and influence
AI is emerging as both a new source of energy demand and a force reshaping the industry itself. 81% of energy insiders expect AI-driven electricity demand to exceed current forecasts, while 43% expect technology and AI companies to gain the most influence over global energy during the coming decade.
Investment confidence faces a delivery test
Investment appetite is strong, but confidence now needs to translate into capacity. 85% of energy insiders say energy is more attractive to invest in than five years ago, while 93% agree that meeting future demand will require growth across multiple energy sources rather than one dominant source. Yet delays in building and connecting grids rank among the biggest barriers to meeting demand, after geopolitics.
